It was announced at the final screening of Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 anime that the series will get a sequel.
Details about said sequel were not revealed in the event. The anime project's director Nobuyoshi Habara, head writer Harutoshi Fukui, and voice actor Daisuke Ono, who played Susumu Kodai appeared in said screening to announce the sequel. They also announced a Yamato 2202 concert this fall.
