It was reported that Lupin III series creator Monkey Punch passed away due to pneumonia last April 11th. He was 81 years old.
Real name Kazuhiko Kato, he was born in Hamanaka, Hokkaida in 1937 and made his debut as a creator with Playboy Nyumon, which was published in Manga Story magazine back in 1965. The author later published his most well known series, Lupin III in the same magazine 2 years later. Due to the show's popularity, the series was adapted into an anime in 1971 and since then, the series received multiple spin-offs and adaptations.
Monkey Punch received multiple awards since the 1980's, most notably, Comic-Con International's Inkpot Award, Romics' Golden Romics, the Association of Media in Digital (AMD) Awards' Meritorious Service Award, and Tokyo Anime Award Festival's Meritorious Service Award.
