Directed by Violet Evergarden TV anime series director Haruka Fujita, The side story will make its Japanese theatrical debut on September 6th and will now run for three weeks, from September 6 to September 26. The side story was originally planned to run for two weeks. In addition, the side story will still hold its world premiere at the AnimagiC convention in Mannheim, Germany, which will run on August 3 and 4. The organizers of said event stated that the screening will continue "at the express request of the studio."
The side story's theatrical debut was in question after the recent fire that happened in Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio Building. It is unknown if the Violet Evergarden film will still hit its planned January 22, 2020 release date.
