Based on Nintendo's long running video game series of the same name, the film will star Chris Pratt (The Guardians of the Galaxy) as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen's Gambit) as Princess Peach, Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as Luigi, Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda) as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) as Toad, Seth Rogen (This Is the End) as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson (The Batman) as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco (The Irishman) as Spike. Long time Super Mario series voice actor, Charles Martinet will have a role in the movie as well.
Produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, the film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) and is written by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru).
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set for an April 7th release in North America, and an April 27th release in Japan.
