The trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was unveiled at this year's The Game Awards.
After settling in Green Hills, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik (played by Jim Carrey) returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba), in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails (voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey), and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
The cast from the first film, namely: James Marsden (X-Men) as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter (Southside with You) as Maddie Wachowski, Natasha Rothwell (Insecure) as Rachel, Adam Pally (Happy Endings) as Wade Whipple, and Lee Majdoub (The 100) as Agent Stone will return to reprise their roles. Also joining the cast is Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds) for a role that is yet to be revealed.
The sequel will retain the same staff from the first film, with Jeff Fowler directing, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the film's script. The film is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara, with Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller serving as executive producers.
