The official Power Rangers Facebook page announced that actress Elizabeth Banks (Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) will play the role of Rita Repulsa in the 2017 Power Rangers film.
In the original 1993 TV series, she's an evil witch who was sealed inside a space dumpster found in the moon and was freed after 1,000 years thanks to two astronauts. Her goal is to conquer Earth and stopping her are the Power Rangers.
Playing the Rangers are: Naomi Scott as Kimberly/Pink Ranger, Darce Montgomery as Jason/Red Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack/Black Ranger, CJ Cyler as Billy/Blue Ranger, and Becky Gomezas Trini/Yellow Ranger.
The upcoming film is directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) with scripts written by X-Men: First Class' Ashely Miller and Zack Stentz. The film is set for a March 24, 2017 release.
