It was reported that long-time anime and tokusatsu composer Michiaki Watanabe has passed away. He was 96 years old.
Also known as Chuumei Watanabe, he passed away due to heart failure at a Tokyo hospital last June 23rd.
For anime fans, he is best known for composing music for Mazinger Z, Godannar, Getter Robo Go, Transformers Victory, and many more. But to tokusatsu fans, he composed the music for the first six entries of the Super Sentai Series, namely: Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, JAKQ Dengekitai, Battle Fever J, Denshi Sentai Denziman, Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan, and Dai Sentai Goggle V. He returned recently to the franchise and composed the music of Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger, the 45th entry of the Super Sentai Series.
He also composed the music for the first five Metal Hero series, namely: Space Sheriff Gavan, Space Sheriff Sharivan, Space Sheriff Shaider, MegaBeast Investigator Juspion, and Jikuu Senshi Spielvan. From all of us here, thank you for the memories.
