It was reported that legendary tokusatsu artist Sadao Iizuka has passed away. He was 88 years old.
The reason for his passing was due to pneumonia. Born in Tokyo in 1934, he began his career as a part-timer at Toho Studios, in which he worked as special effects art assistant on various films, and is the man responsible in creating Godzilla's atomic breath and King Ghidorah's gravity beams. But that's not all, he also worked in the original Ultraman series in which he created Ultraman's iconic Spacium Beam.
He also founded his own special effects company called Den Film Effects, which worked on various films and TV shows produced by Toei, Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and Daiei. He also teached the younger generations, and his last major work was as the optical artist for Shin Ultraman.
