The Pokémon Company announced a new Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Instead of exploring a brand new region, we will return to the Sinnoh region, but in the past.
As the name of the game suggest, the game's main story revolve around Arceus. Arceus is said to have shaped all there is in this world. Just how is this mighty Pokémon connected to your journey?
The game honors past Pokémon games' core gameplay, while infusing new action and RPG elements. In the game, you will catch, survey, and research wild Pokémon in the Sinnoh region to create and complete the region's first Pokédex. To catch a Pokémon, you can observe them to learn their behavior, sneak up, and aim your ancient Poké Ball and catch! Like in the past, you can use your ally Pokémon to battle wild Pokémon that you hope to catch. Since the game takes place in the past, ideas of a standard Pokémon Trainer or having a Pokémon League doesn't exist yet.
But that's not all, unlike the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games wherein you choose between Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup as your starter Pokémon, this game's Pokémon Professor will let you choose between Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott as your partner, Pokémon that are not native in the Sinnoh region and were encountered by said professor in their travels.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set for an early 2022 release, only for the Nintendo Switch.
