It was announced that VAIO, Toei, and Craftar will collaborate for a new venture named VR Cinema Consortium (VRCC). This new consortium aims to screen VR content in cinemas with the first screenings showing three 3D CG shorts.
These shorts are: Evangelion: Another Impact, Osomatsu-san VR, and Natsu o Yarinaosu (Redo the Summer). The Evangelion short is based on the short shown in the 2015 Japan Animator Expo collection of shorts. These three shorts started screening on July 2nd and is planned to screen for a month at the Shinjuku Wald 9 theater.
Other planned VR shorts include Ju-on VR by Takashi Shimizu, the creator and director of the original Ju-on film and a Kamen Rider VR film. Also planned are concerts and feature-length films. This collaboration features hardware, software, and systems provided and developed by VAIO, with Toei distributing the content to theaters, and Craftar animating and producing the content.
