The trailer for the upcoming live-action series adaptation of Tohru Fujisawa's GTO: The Early Years (Shonan Junai Gumi) was released. Aside from the show's theme song, the trailer also features the song "Poison" by Takashi Sorimachi, the theme song of the original 1998 Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) drama.
The series will star Kanichiro Sato (The Anthem of the Heart) as Eikichi Onizuka and Daichi Kaneko (Ossan's Love) as Ryuji Danma.
Based on the manga of the same name, the series serves as the prequel to the GTO manga as it follows a young Onizuka and Danma, known collectively as the deadly Oni-Baku duo as the pair recant their previous gang lifestyle in hopes of losing their virginity while battling their former adversaries.
Eiji Uchida (Between Men and the Gods) will serve as the show's chief director with Yusaku Matsumoto and Nobuhiro Suzumura serving as co-directors. Uchida will also write the show's script alongside Noriko Kato, Hime Rina, and Shinichi Nomura. Koji Endo will compose the show's music in collaboration with the music company Being. GTO: The Early Years is set for a February 28th release only on Amazon Prime Video.
