Tsuburaya Productions announced that Kenshi Yonezu (My Hero Academia Season 2) will perform the Shin Ultraman film's theme song.
He will perform the song, "M87" and said song will be released as a single on May 18th. The song's title can be a play to Nebula M78, the nebula were the Land of Light, the home world of various Ultras, including the original Ultraman is located. Yonezu is a fan of Anno's work and offered to collaborate on the film's theme song.
A big screen adaptation of the original 1966 Ultraman series, the film will be written and produced by famed director Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) with Shin Godzilla collaborator Shinji Higuchi (Gamera Trilogy) directing the said project. The film also features music by Shiro Sagisu (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bleach).
Distributed by Toho, part of the Ultraman franchise's 55th anniversary celebrations, the film was originally planned for an early summer 2021 release, but was postponed due to the production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Shin Ultraman is currently set for a May 13th release in Japan.
