At first, these two plots seem not to relate to each other that is until you get into the core of both searches, both Alain and the girl both experienced lost. In Alain's case, he recently lost his father and he doesn't know what he will do with his life and in the girl's case, she recently lost her father, saw him entering the Deep Connect building, and wants to reconnect with him. Both have the same core, but at the end of the day, it will eventually end with one end goal and that is to move on from lost and continue on living, something that this episode emphasized on.
Now we go to what makes this episode really, really good, and that is the scenes of Alain and Grandma Fumi. What I love about these scenes is that it feels like these scenes served as the culmination to all the Grandma Fumi scenes that we got since the day Alain met her in the TV series. What I love most about the scenes in this episode is her sagely her advice were to Alain. For a lady who is younger than him, she showed more experience about life compared to the one who lived thousands of years.
I am serious, they keep on talking about this project but we barely have an idea on what this is all about. I mean, we get bits and pieces about it, but that's the extent of what we know about this project and that's disappointing given that we have like at least 10 episodes that mentions it. Anyway, since they need to get down into this mystery, they need a distraction so that they can enter the facilities without anyone noticing it; this is when Onari gets in the picture and acts like a street punk with good manners. It's funny and the way he speaks, acts and especially what he says feels so wrong in some many levels that it is really entertaining.
Heck, we got some neat form switches, which made Ghost's fight scenes really interesting to watch. It's intense, quick, and the best part about it is that it is action packed. The same thing can be said with Makoto and Alain's portion of the fight scene, but what makes it even better is Akari and Alain's quick exchange in which Akari tells Alain to call her in her name, and not just call her "woman". It's a really neat scene and it ties in with the previous Alain and Akari interactions that the series had thus far.
With our heroes overwhelmed, they retreated and as stated earlier, we got the Houdini back story stuff, which I already talked about, and more Grandma Fumi. These Grandma Fumi scenes really tugged my heartstrings, and is easily the best part of the episode. When we first saw her after the fight, we see her holding the takoyaki she prepared for Alain while she is taking a nap at the bench. This leads us to one of the best scenes in the entire episode, heck, the entire series in general. What we got is an old lady imparting her wisdom to someone who is inexperienced in this thing called life.
This beautiful scene is then followed with a close up of Grandma Fumi closing her eyes, giving us an idea that this might be the last time we will see her in the series. Kanon arrives, placed her jacket on the sleeping Grandma Fumi and tells Alain that Takeru and Makoto once again infiltrated Deep Connect. This is a really nice silent scene, which will transition to the more chaotic and cool action scene. The next action sequence is really, really good. What makes it so good is that it concludes the Houdini stuff with Houdini inside the girl doing his escape artist thing, which is then followed with Takeru convincing him why the girl meeting her father is a good thing.
The fight ends and Akari and the girl close in meeting her father, and as for Takeru and Makoto, they are done fighting the enemy Ganma. But because of one fist bump or fist catch or whatever you like to call that, Takeru sensed that there's something wrong with Makoto and his new Deep Specter powers. This short scene adds more weight to the Deep Specter stuff hinted or revealed in the previous episodes. This seriously got me intrigued on what will be the effects of Deep Specter to Makoto's body.
