Toho Animation posted the third official trailer for the upcoming Kaiju No. 8 anime series, which was first revealed at the Jump Festa '24 event.
The series will star Masaya Fukunishi (Tokyo Revengers) as Kafka Hibino/Kaiju No. 8, Wataru Katoh (Aoashi) as Reno Ichikawa, and Asami Seto (Jujutsu Kaisen) as Mina Ashiro. Also joining the show's cast are: Fairouz Ai (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean) as Kikoru Shinomiya and Kengo Kawanishi (Naruto Shippuden) as Soshiro Hoshina.
Based on Naoya Matsumoto's manga of the same name, the series follows Kafka Hibino who vows to become a member of the Japanese Defense Force along with his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro after their town was destroyed by kaiju, only to fail countless times in the examinations, and ends up becoming a member of the monster clean up crew. This all changed after a small talking monster flies into his body via his mouth, thus gaining the ability to transform into a monster. Dubbed Kaiju No. 8, Kafka still has his consciousness and gains superhuman strength in his kaiju form.
The series will be directed by Shigeyuki Miya (Lupin III) & Tomomi Kamiya (Moriarty the Patriot) with scripts written by Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion). Serving as character designer and chief animation director is Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto) with Mahiro Maeda (Rebuild of Evangelion, SSSS.Gridman) serving as kaiju designer. Yuta Bandoh (Belle) will compose the show's music.
The series will be animated by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Haikyu!!) with Studio khara (Rebuild of Evangelion, Shin Ultraman) serving as Kaiju supervisor with various design and artworks. Kaiju No. 8 is set for an April 2024 release.
