Tsuburaya Productions and Khara announced that director Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) will work on the upcoming Shin Ultraman film.
The famed director will write and produce the upcoming film with Shin Godzilla collaborator Shinji Higuchi (Gamera Trilogy) directing the said project. The first draft of the film was finished last February 5th with Anno fully joining the project after finishing the Evangelion:3.0+1.0 film.
Shin Ultraman will be a big screen adaptation of the original 1966 Ultraman series starring Takumi Saito (Ace Attorney, Shin Godzilla), Masami Nagasawa (Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, Gintama), and Hidetoshi Nishijima (The Wind Rises). Distributed by Toho, the film is set for a 2021 release.
