Not only it reminded us that the search is still going on, but it also reinforces Sela's homesickness from the previous episode, which was brought up at the start of this episode. It's this subtle nod to continuity that made me care more for these characters. This search for the switch was the boiling point of 2 months worth of frustration for that search for the Champion's Symbol and their actions at the middle of the episode were justified.
Now that we are done with the dome problem, our heroes are once again faced with a new problem, this time, it's with the form of Gift, a robot that's so powerful that it was put to storage because it makes all the games one-sided. It was at this scene and the scene earlier in the episode that made me love Genis as a villain. He's cunning, more cunning than Kubar. He commands presence when he's on-screen and it also helps that his voice actor played Kars in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency anime!
Because it grew giant, it is time for the giant battle, and boy, it looks like our heroes are hopeless in this one. For starters, they already unleashed two giant robots, but their attacks are not doing any damage to Gift. What's more is that this machine barely moves when it attacked Zyuoh King and Zyuoh Wild. It moves some of its limbs, and each move deals quite a lot of damage to our heroes. The best part about it is that the way this scene was shot, it felt like I am watching one giant monster dominate our heroes. The scene felt like our heroes have no chance of fighting back.
Seeing shots of our heroes at their weakest gave this episode a sense that this is the season finale of this series, and like all great season finales, it ends with one heck of a cliffhanger. This cliffhanger is a shot of Genis at his best, our heroes at their weakest, and Yamato about to be crushed by a boulder only to be saved by a mysterious being. If you are taking notes on Yamato's back story and took notes on some subtle details in the first episode, you can easily conclude that this mysterious man is the Bird-Man that saved Yamato back when he was a kid. Who is he and why is he here?
