A new trailer for the Blue Exorcist anime's upcoming third season, Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga was unveiled at the Jump Festa '24 event. The trailer features the show's new opening theme, "Eye's Sentry" by UVERworld.
Aside from UVERworld, it was previously announced that Mulasaki-Ima will perform the show's ending theme, "Gakkyu Nisshi" (Class Diary).
Based on volumes 10-15 of the manga, Rin and his friends have successfully defeated the revived Impure King in Kyoto and returned to their daily lives at the True Cross Academy. But that didn't last long as the Knights of the True Cross have been receiving more and more consultations about demons, and a wave of strange events have begun to spread around the world. The Exwires need to work together to solve the mysterious phenomenon that is happening at the academy.
Later, at the middle of the True Cross Academy school festival, Lucifer, the King of Light and the leader of the Illuminati, appears. He declares war on the Knights of the True Cross as he would resurrect the demon god Satan and combine the material world, Assiah and the void world, Gehenna. He then says that he needs Izumo for a certain "plan"...
The upcoming season will be animated by Studio VOLN (Ushio & Tora) and will be directed by Daisuke Yoshida (Kiba, Ushio & Tora) with scripts overseen by Toshiya Ono (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II). Lastly, the series will feature character designs by Yurie Oohigashi (Appare-Ranman!), and music composed by Kohta Yamamoto and Hiroyuki Sawano, who previously worked on the previous seasons of the anime. Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga is set to premiere this January 7, 2024.
