The official Sazae-san 50th anniversary special Twitter account announced that actor Yu Inaba (Kamen Rider Drive) will play Ikura Namino in the special's live-action segment.
In the original series, Ikura is a one-year-old baby. In the special, he is now a 21-year-old adult in the special's live-action segment, and is the underclassman of the older Tarao (played by Ryo Narita) in college. While they remain close friends, Tarao is undecided on which direction to go in life. Meanwhile, Ikura has decided to "make waves himself" while in school, and launched an IT startup company using drones. Tarao can only look on with growing impatience at Ikura's success.
The special will run for three and half hours and the live-action segment will depict the family 20 years into the future. Said segments will serve as a follow-up to the September 2018 sequel stage play, which imagines the family 10 years into the future. The special will premiere on November 24th on Fuji TV and is directed by Masayuki Suzuki (GTO, Hero) and is written by Tomoko Akutsu (Dear Mama).
