TV Asahi announced that Osamu Tezuka's classic manga series, Black Jack will get a new live-action series next year.
The upcoming series will star Issey Takahashi (Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan) as the titular Black Jack, a brilliant maverick doctor who practices without a license.
The first live-action Black Jack series since 2000, it will adapt select chapters of the original manga. This isn't the first time Black Jack was adapted into live-action. Aside from the 2000 series, it got a special in that same year, a movie in 1977, a series in 1981, a direct to video project in 1996, and another special in 2011.
The series will be directed by Hideo Jojo (Love Nonetheless) with scripts written by Yoshiko Morishita (Kochikame The Movie: Save The Kachidiki Bridge!). In addition, Takashi Ohmama (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury) composing the show's music, and will feature costume and character designs by Isao Tsuge (Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan).
