Hiroaki Murakami, best known to most fans as Hiroshi Tsukuba/Skyrider in the 1980 reboot* of the Kamen Rider series recently talked about said role on a TBS radio program last October 23rd.
Skyrider was his debut role, which he accepted after quiting university. Murakami stated that he didn't want to this at first and originally declined the part at his office before the audition. But his manager refused to let him quit and urged him to continue till the end. He agreed and continued the auditioning for said role.
As the auditions progressed, he was more determined after learning more about the new series. He felt that the story was different compared to what he previously knew about Kamen Rider. As for how he thinks he was on-screen, at first he felt disappointed in his acting as it seem too much like a "rookie". But after receiving rave reviews from TV station officials who reviewed the pilot episode, the atmosphere changed.
Murakami started to feel better and after one year playing Kamen Rider, he learned a lot from the role and stated that "It was like an actor's school." 20 years later, he recalled receiving fan letters, especially that he received more letters from women than children.

*Take note, Skyrider's show was simply called "Kamen Rider". The show's Kamen Rider never got the Skyrider name until later in the series. To distinguish it from the original 1971 Kamen Rider series, fans either call it New Kamen Rider or Skyrider.
