It was announced by talent agency Actors Seven that voice actor Nobuyo Oyama has passed away last September 29th due to senility. She was 90 years old.
Oyama has been suffering from dementia since 2012, which first revealed in 2015. Even if that is the case, she still continued voice acting work later in 2015, and it even inspired a dramatized TV special titled "Together for a Long Time: The Story of Voice Actress Nobuyo Oyama" in December 2015.
Real name Nobuyo Yamashita, she was born on October 16, 1933 in Tokyo. She made her acting debut in an NHK drama in 1956, and later made her voice acting debut in 1957. For most fans, she is best known as the original voice of Doraemon from the Doraemon franchise from 1979 to 2005. She also performed the show's theme song, "Doraemon no Uta" as well.
Aside from Doraemon, she's also the voice of Monokuma in the Danganronpa video game franchise and even voiced said character in the Danganronpa The Animation anime. From all of us here, thank you for the memories.
