It was revealed at the December issue of Nakayoshi magazine that a "huge, huge, huge announcement on super big news" for the Cardcaptor Sakura franchise will be revealed in the magazine's next issue.
The magazine this that this announcement will be related to a new anime project. A previous "super, super new announcement" revealed that the Cardcaptor Sakura the Movie will be back in Japanese theaters on January 21, 2017.
2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the original manga and CLAMP launched a sequel manga series, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc, which started in Nakayoshi's July issue. The manga takes place after Sakura graduated from elementary and is now in her first year of junior high school. Sakura sees a mysterious dream, and an incident takes place.
