It was announced that Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables novel series will get a new anime adaptation simply titled Anne Shirley.
The novel series follows 11-year-old orphan girl named Anne Shirley and her adventures in the fictional town of Avonlea in Prince Edward, Canada as she was sent by mistake to middle-aged siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. The anime adaptation will depict her growth from girl to woman through her bond with the siblings, her friendship with Diana, and her romance with Gilbert.
The series will be animated by The Answer Studio (Golgo 13, Shimajirou no Wow! the Movie). This isn't the first time the novel was adapted into an anime as it was first adapted into an anime in 1979 directed by Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies). Anne Shirley is set to premiere this April 2025 on NHK's E-Tele channel.
