Voice Actress Atsuko Tanaka Has Passed Away

It was announced by voice actor Hikaru Tanaka via his official Twitter account that his mother, voice actress Atsuko Tanaka has passed away. She was 61 years old.

​Tanaka passed away due to an unspecified illness, which she's been fighting for a year. In the statement released by Hikaru, he can't reveal the specific illness is in accordance to her wishes, but he stated that she lived a serious, dignified, and a little playful life during the almost one year that Atsuko was fighting her illness.

In addition, their mother-son relationship wasn't revealed in public until now, and Hikaru with great regret had to reveal their relationship this way. Hikaru also thanked her mother's fans who loved her, and everyone in the industry who took care of her. He also asked to not forget the works and characters that Atsuko had poured so much love into, and to not forget her. 

Atsuko Tanaka is best known for her role as Motoko Kusanagi in the Ghost in the Shell franchise, Caster in Fate/stay night, Bayonetta in the Bayonetta franchise, Lisa Lisa in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency, Chun-Li in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Hanami in Jujutsu Kaisen, Konan in Naruto Shippuden, and many more. For tokusatsu fans, she is best known for role as Hades Wise God Gorgon in Mahou Sentai Magiranger and Michelle Peng in Juken Sentai Gekiranger.
