Sunrise announced that they will release three new Gundam anime projects this 2022.
The first project is "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury", a new Gundam TV anime, making this the first new Gundam TV anime since Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans, which first aired seven years ago.
The second project is "Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island", a new film based on the infamous 15th episode of the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime of the same name. The upcoming film will tackle the same story, but from a different angle. In the original episode, Amuro meets a man named Cucuruz Doan, a former Zeon pilot who no longer wants to fight and is now living in peace in an island with his old Zaku II.
The episode was infamous due to its animation not being on par with other episodes, causing Mobile Suit Gundam director and co-creator Yoshiyuki Tomino to not have this episode included in its official release in North America. The upcoming film version will be directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the character designer of the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime, and the director and creator of the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga and films.

In addition, the Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans: Urdr-Hunt project, as well as the release Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans G mobile game will also be released around the same period.
