The official Ginga Jinpuu Jinraiger anime's Twitter account announced that prolific anime writer Yu Yamamoto passed away last November 25th. He was 71 years old.
Yamamoto is best known for writing 11 episodes of the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series and the script for the Mobile Suit Gundam - The Movie Trilogy. Outside of Gundam, he also known for writing the J9 Series, a trilogy of mecha anime titles that includes: Galaxy Cyclone Braiger, Galactic Gale Baxinger, and Galactic Whirlwind Sasuraiger. Prior to his passing, he was writing Ginga Jinpuu Jinraiger, which is related to said series, but was put on hiatus due to Yamamoto's busy schedule. The future of the project is currently undecided.
Outisde of mecha anime, he also wrote the following anime titles: Time Bokan, Yatterman, Urusei Yatsura, Gatchaman II, Hurricane Polymar, Grimm Masterpiece Theater, Cyborg Kuro-chan, Angie Girl, and many more. For tokusatsu fans, he also wrote episodes of Ultraman Cosmos and the Ultraman Tiga Gaiden. From all of us here, thank you for the memories.
