The folks over at Nerdist re-imagines the upcoming Pacific Rim Uprising film as a Japanese tokusatsu series from the 1970's.
For eagle-eyed tokusatsu fans, this video paid homage to Showa Era Ultraman opening sequences and Space Sheriff Gavan's title card text.
Taking place years after the events of the first film, the sequel follows Jake Pentecost (played by John Boyega), the son of Stacker Pentecost, who witnessed his father's demise at the end of the original film. He is one of the new generation of heroic Jaeger Pilots born into the aftermath of the Kaiju war.
The film also stars Cailee Spaeny (Counting to 1000) as Amara. Also confirmed to be part of the film are Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad), Jing Tian (Police Story: Lockdown, Kong: Skull Island), and Mackenyu Arata (Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable) in unnamed roles. Some portions of the film will be shot in China, and the sequel's story has a "strong connection to China".
Pacifim Rim Uprising is set for a March 23, 2018 release.
