Sunrise announced the new release date for the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway anime film, alongside with a new teaser trailer that features the Xi Gundam.
Originally set for a July 23rd release, the film will now open on May 7, 2021, after it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The upcoming film is part of the UC NexT 0100 Project, which deals with the future of the UC timeline. Based on Yoshiyuki Tomino's novel series of the same name, the series takes place in the year UC 105 and follows Hathaway Noa, the son of legendary Earth Federation ship captain Bright Noa. The novel also deals the aftermath of the events of the Char's Counterattack film.
The film is directed by Shunkou Murase (Ergo Proxy), with scripts written by Yasuyuki Mutou (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096). In addition, Pablo Uchida, Naoyuki Onda, and Shigeki Kuhara are adapting Haruhiko Mikimoto's original character designs for animation. Lastly, Hiroyuki Sawano (Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative, Mobile Suit Gundam UC) is composing the film's music.
