The official Gundam YouTube channel posted the official trailer of the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway anime film.
Joining the film's cast is Soma Saito (Aldnoah.Zero, Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE) as Lane Aim, the young Earth Federation pilot of the mobile suit Penelope. In addition, the trailer also features the Messer F01, the main mobile suit of the Anti-Earth Federation Organization Mafty.
The upcoming film is part of the UC NexT 0100 Project, which deals with the future of the UC timeline. Based on Yoshiyuki Tomino's novel series of the same name, the series takes place in the year UC 105 and follows Hathaway Noa, the son of legendary Earth Federation ship captain Bright Noa. The novel also deals the aftermath of the events of the Char's Counterattack film.
The film is directed by Shunkou Murase (Ergo Proxy), with scripts written by Yasuyuki Mutou (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096). In addition, Pablo Uchida, Naoyuki Onda, and Shigeki Kuhara are adapting Haruhiko Mikimoto's original character designs for animation. Lastly, Hiroyuki Sawano (Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative, Mobile Suit Gundam UC) is composing the film's music.
Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway is set for a May 7th release after the film was delayed due to COVID-19. The film will play 214 theaters in Japan, making this a franchise-record high, and will also screen in 4D and Dolby Cinema.
