Anyway, not only this episode is a good debut of a new form, but it also made us care more about Takeru leaving his friends behind. For starters, the fact that 3/4 of the episode is dedicated to the search of the missing Ghost Eyecons, and showing us how much time left before Takeru's eventual departure made me care more about the character and his journey. Seeing how his friends struggle and even scratching their heads just to find a way to extend and to save Takeru's life made me care about the support characters. Add in some scenes where they bond in-between the search of the missing Eyecons, you got one good piece of drama that ties in perfectly with the series.
Another good thing that came out of this scene is that it expanded Alain's long term plan in the series, that merely the act of wasting Gundari is seen as treason in his eyes. Based on how I understand it, it seems that the portals Javert used to summon Gundari is for one time use only so wasting such resource, especially if the plan will involve summoning large quantities of it is bad. To make up for it, Javert decides to of course, defeat Ghost and the Specter the traitor.
With Takeru dead, Specter is the only one left standing to fight and to be honest, the writer can easily turn this one into a two-parter and have the episode end with Javert beating the crap out of Specter and leave because he already dealt enough damage with the next episode focusing the impact of Takeru's death, and Takeru's journey on coming back to life. But nope, the episode took a different route and I gotta be honest, I liked how the executed it.
Seeing Ryu being proud to what his son has done for the past few episodes is a really great scene. This also leads up to the debut of Toucon Boost Damashii. What I love about this scene is that this scene pretty much confirmed that Toucon Boost Damashii is his father's fighting spirit, that in this form, he is in essence, fighting alongside with his father. More on Ryu in this episode, after we got (or was it before) this scene, we learned that Takeru still needs to gather the 15 Heroic Ghost Eyecons. This scene showed us how important these 15 Eyecons are, that even if Ghost has a new power-up, these 15 items are still an integral part of the series' mythos.
As for Ghost Toucon Boost Damashii's finisher, like all Heisei Era finishers, it looks really cool. There's nothing of note to say about it. With Javert finally defeated, Takeru offers Makoto to fight with him, only for him to well... reject it for some reason. But who cares, it seems that Takeru is finally back for good and he is not anymore a Ghost! But nope, turns out Ryu's sacrifice reset his time as a ghost and once again, Takeru only has 99 days left to gather all 15 Ghost Eyecons, make a wish to the eternal dragon Shenron and wish himself back to life before these 15 Eyecons will disperse and will remain unusable for one year.
So yeah, Team Ghost is back in business and they will search far and wide to find cases that might involve Ganma, and hopefully, they can find the remaining missing Eyecons.
