As for Takeru's friends, Onari and Akari, Onari is the head priest of the temple and his enthusiasm reminded me of Shinkenger's Ryuunosuke Ikenami/ShinkenBlue. He is a guy who believes in ghost and wishes to see one... for some reason. I mean, there is nothing wrong looking for ghost; it's just that Onari is that kind of guy who might end up fainting once he sees one. As for Akari, she believes in one thing, science and stuff that she sees with her own eyes. She doesn't believe in the paranormal, that's why she easily clashed with Onari.
Now to Takeru, he is a guy training to become like his father, a ghost hunter, but sadly, he is not strong enough to become one. Everything changed when a package coming from his father arrived that contains a mysterious item. All we know is that his dad planned that his son will receive it once he reached the right age that is 18 years of age based on the day Takeru received his book of world heroes. The only thing that item did is that it allowed Takeru to see ghosts. The same ghosts that terrorized the town earlier! With his new power, he tried to save his friends from said ghost only to die at the hands of these ghosts.
Because Takeru is dead, it seems that he has entered limbo or purgatory or whatever your religion calls that space between the land of the living and the dead. This is when he saw his dead body and the sage offered him the chance to live again. Of course, Takeru accepted it but that's not all, the item that he received from his father transformed into an item called "Eyecon". Said Eyecon now contains his soul, and using this power, he will fight the ghosts called Ganma and gather other Eyecons. He also received the Ghost Driver from the sage; we will learn more about it later.
Yurusen teaching Takeru to use stuff screamed something from an RPG where you have this companion who will teach you the basics of the game. This companion becomes annoying around the time you already know the basics and will keep on bothering you for some trivial stuff later in the game. This is the case I have with Yurusen. Instead of Takeru playing around the belt and its levers, Yurusen teaches Takeru the basics. There is nothing wrong with that, I am just worried that after this tutorial, what will be his job? Will he keep on bothering Takeru to look for Ganma and Eyecons every day or will just float around until he says something useful?
Ghost's first fight in the series is your standard "newbie gets new powers and he doesn't know how to use it" kind of fight. The fight scene gives us a taste of things to come and even the slow development of his fighting style. As seen in this scene, because he is a ghost, of course he can float around and might even use it to his advantage. Yurusen also tells us that because he is dead, he can't die twice while fighting Ganma. Even if that is the case, every blow will still hurt. Oh well, at least he will not die in those blows. Hopefully Takeru will use it to his advantage in later episodes.
Ghost's bike looks pretty boring. I'll just skip it, but what I can't skip is the part where the Ganma attacks random civilians and the best part about it is that the civilians didn't see the bike chasing the Ganma nor the Ganma's attack! This show just took the true meaning of a Kamen Rider into the next level. I mean, Kamen Riders are these heroes who fight the good fight without anyone knowing. They are the un-thanked heroes who fight the bad guys in the shadows. Yes there are some kids or adults who might end up seeing the fight, but in Ghost's case, no one knows he existed. No one knows that he is fighting the bad guys. He is the hero who can't go public because as far as the public is concerned, he is a missing person.
As expected, he defeated the Ganma but this is not the end of their attacks. In the shadows is a mysterious man who wears a hat and has bad teeth, and a guy who has bad taste when it comes hair style and earrings stare down after they talk for a couple of seconds. It says a lot about the villains but I got to be honest, these two are kinda underwhelming.
Thanks to their bickering, Takeru retreats to his father's lab and is surprised to meet the sage in his place. This is when we learned crucial information the sage failed to tell Takeru in their earlier meeting. He needs to collect 15 Ghost Eyecons of heroic men within 99 days or else he is dead for good. No limbo or anything, he goes straight to the land of the dead. With only 98 days, can he collect all 15 heroic Ghost Eyecons so that he can live again?
