Based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's supernatural suspense manga of the same name, Death Note the Musical originally debuted in 2015 and had a rerun in Japan in 2017. The musical featured music scored by American composer Frank Wildhorn, who previously composed songs for artists such as Whitney Houston and Natalie Cole. The musical will feature lyrics written by Jack Murphy (The Count of Monte Cristo) and script written by Ivan Menchell (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang). The musical will once again be directed by Tamiya Kuriyama.
The 2020 run of the musical will debut in Toshima Ward Performing Arts Exchange Theater (Owl Spot) in Tokyo. Lastly, there are plans for the musical to be performed in various locations in Japan and overseas.
