Unlike most 80's Super Sentai shows that I watched, it first started by giving us a brief background on Takeru (or Michael Joe) and Mio (or Rio)'s love story with Rio's shoe being the starting point of it. Based on that scene, it seems that the two know each other for quite some time now as Mio was seen not wearing any shoes, like she expecting that Takeru will give her a new pair of shoes. The love story aspect of the scene nor the new pair of shoes interest me in that scene but Rio going out from a manhole. My first impression would be she's a poor girl living in some underground house, but because on how she dress up, it might be a different case.
As for the members of Tube, I find Ground Emperor Zeba and Prince Igam interesting. Zeba for obvious reasons that he is the leader of the group and that how can he bring darkness in the upper world; as for Prince Igam that would be his appearance, I mean for starters, he sounds like a girl and wears heels. If he's just a guy with bad fashion sense, I can see it from being the only clear excuse but there is something with Igam that strikes me that he is more than just a guy with bad fashion sense in terms of shoes.
Since Tube's invasion began, they also used the opportunity to kill the traitor that lead us to a scene wherein Takeru and Mio ended in some sink hole and Mio getting sucked by a quicksand. The scene was a heavy drama scene for Takeru and I say his actor did the scene perfectly. I just love the look of determination on Takeru's face as he tries to reach his hand to grab Mio's hand, only to end up not saving her but only to receive a memento coming from her.
The series was the first of its kind as this is the first show to introduce a five-piece mecha and they did the job of introducing the first three individual machines perfectly. Pink Mask's machine and Black Mask's machine are my favorites in this episode as in Pink's case; it can shift its flying style depending on the situation. It can be a helicopter and if the situation calls it, it can fix its blades to transform the machine into a regular fighter plane. As for Black Mask's machine, it's a tank and I really love cool tanks. Anyways, what happened to Blue Mask's machine? It came in late and didn't do anything in battle giving me an impression that they just it in this episode so that they can sell more toys.
Speaking of selling more toys, their weapon, the "Laser Magnum" looks amazing but I can't help myself to laugh as the scene wherein the Maskmen assembled their guns into the Laser Magnum was shabbily made as their sword was significantly larger than the Laser Magnum and for the weapon's blade to shrink for no explained reason is something. As for their team finishing weapon, the "Shot Bomber", a bazooka with a backpack for some unexplained reason. Hopefully, they can explain why the Shot Bomber has a backpack during the time they will perform their team finisher.
