Netflix has unveiled the character design and more details about the upcoming Yasuke anime.
The series takes place in a war-torn feudal era Japan filled with mechs and magic. It follows the greatest ronin never known as he struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past of violence. But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, he must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords. This is the story of Yasuke, the first African samurai who once served the legendary Oda Nobunaga.
The series is created by LeSean Thomas (Cannon Busters, The Boondocks) who will also serve as the show's director and executive producer, with studio MAPPA (Yuri!! on Ice, Kakegurui) animating the series. The series will feature music by Flying Lotus (Carole and Tuesday, Blade Runner: Black Out 2022) who will also serve as executive producer, and Yasuke will be voiced by actor Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta).
Yasuke is set to premiere in spring 2021 worldwide, exclusively on Netflix.
