It was reported that director Shinichiro Sawai has passed away last September 3rd. He was 83 years old.
He passed away at a Tokyo hospital due to multiple organ failures. The announcement of his death was made three days later by Toei, a studio he worked on for years. He began having health issues since the mid-2000s, but it didn't stop him from being active until around 2011 due to increasingly severe health issues.
Sawai made his directorial debut with 1981's Wild Daisy, which is then followed by the award films 1984's W's Tragedy and 1985's Early Spring Story. In addition, he also directed 2007's Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea. To most tokusatu fans, he is best known as the main director of Space Sheriff Shaider and Juukou B-Fighter, two entries of Toei's Metal Hero franchise.
After his death, his wife Kyoko said, "He dreamed of standing on set one more time, but he has departed without fulfilling that dream. To remember him, there is no better way to honor his memory than to watch his films once more."
